CHAPTER 9

“Maia,” he whispered, kissing me still.

“Maia.”

Was I dreaming or was he whispering my name in the same frenzied passion I had been dreaming about since I met the man?

Yes, please.

Maybe dreams really did come true. After all, Enok was kissing me with a ferocity I didn’t know he had in him, but I sure as shit was not complaining. All my life, I’d waited to be kissed like that.

Over the last few months, I’d tried to impress him with my work, and, yes, I’d agonized over his harsh grading system. But I never stopped longing for him.

I could not help it.

It was even better than I’d imagined. Still, I wondered if he would want me after the passionate frenzy abated.

Would he be able to look at me tomorrow with the same heat I felt rolling off his hard body right now?

I hoped so.

Yes, I was usually a very confident woman, but doubt had an annoying way of appearing at the most inopportune times.

Talk about a mood killer.

I knew he was going to have a difficult time with this new development in our relationship, but I didn’t care. I would pay the price later.

As long as he kept on kissing me.

He’d displayed nothing but professionalism in the classroom, and I knew already kissing me would not sit well with him. After all, he was an apprentice, and I was a student. But here he was, pressing his lips softly, and yet firmly, to mine.

Flames licked my skin, but I was shivering uncontrollably. Like some kind of mad fever burn had taken over. Physical intimacy was something that, despite my reputation, I did not indulge in frequently. In fact, I hadn’t kissed a boy since I’d been back at school.

How could I when all I wanted was him?

Dammit.

Was he pulling back?

Before I could protest, I felt his fingers digging into my upper arms. This touch was different. Not sensual, but firm. He grabbed at me tightly and gave me a little shake.

“Maia. Maia!”

More urgently, now, he called out. The mage had to say my name twice before I gave in to the fact my first kiss with the man I’d been not so secretly pining after was, in fact, over.

Sad sigh.

The hands that had been cradling me in a seductive embrace now squeezed me with growing panic. I suppose I should have been more concerned, but I could still taste him on my lips, and already, I mourned the loss of his kiss.

Slowly, as if waking from a dream, I opened my eyes. My mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water. I was stunned as I immediately grasped the reason for Enok’s growing anxiety.

“Holy fuck!” I yelled.

My heart slammed inside my chest. With my pulse racing, stomach squeezing, and breathing no longer easy, I let out a shrill scream.

What the fucking fuck?

We were no longer standing on the rooftop where I’d gone to calm my nerves.

Nope.

Not anymore.

Somehow, some way, we’d been floating, or flying!

I did not know how it seemed impossible, but it was true.
